Hello Divine Inspirations!

I am new to the game of blogging.... so be patient with me!

If you are passionate about all things design related then we will be good friends!

I come from a family of talented of designers. My grandfather designed window displays for high end dress shops in the 1930's and 1940's, and my mother was a designer in Texas. My sister is also a designer and we love trading ideas. I began working with my mother at the age of 16, although I practically "teethed" on carpet and wall-covering samples! She took me to client meetings, to "market" and showed me how to work with trades people. I learned a lot from working with her and to this day I absolutely love working with all types of people.

I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Interior Design and have designed for residential as well as corporate clients and also worked in the private aviation industry for over 10 years designing everything from custom carpets to world class private jets.

Being creative feeds my soul and I love using the gifting God has granted me to bless those whom I can. Early in my aviation design career, I began to feel "guilty" about assisting people in spending so much money on themselves. I thought, "Lord, there are poor and starving people all over the world who need food, clothing, shelter and education. What am I doing here?"

Very graciously and lovingly He told me; "Some of the people you work with don't know me. I've given you a talent and gift, and opened the door for you to use it. I've placed you among people who need to see what it looks like to love me in every day life. This is your mission field." He then reminded me of this scripture verse:

"Whatever you do, do your work [c]heartily, as for the Lord [d]rather than for men," Colossians 3:23

I was young and immature and made a lot of mistakes with my representation of Him in those days, (let's face it, I still do!) but I try to honor what he told me that day.

Not long after that I got the job I'd always wanted; after marrying a wonderful man we decided it was time to have a family. I was blessed to be able to stay home with our two boys for 17 years! The inspiration behind "Divine Inspirations" was born out of my encounter with The Lord while designing airplanes but it really took shape when I stayed home with our boys.

Much time has been spent writing, sewing, cooking, designing, speaking and teaching but I am always reminded that all creativity is a gift from God and that I am to offer it back to Him. It humbles me deeply to be invited to influence any space for a client. Every consultation appointment scheduled and project that is tackled, I first seek The Lord for guidance, inspiration and creativity so that our client would be blessed and He will receive glory.

" He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers." Exodus 35:35

Some translations use the words: skill, wisdom of heart, wisdom, understanding perception to describe "creativity". If you are creative, you have skill, wisdom of heart, wisdom, and understanding perception! That's pretty mind blowing I think.

I hope to inspire you to dig deeper, to take chances, to push creative boundaries and to seek God in your own processes. I'd love for you to inspire me back!
